U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary holds Team Coordination Training
Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 12 conducted a Team Coordination Training at the Indian River Coast Guard Station Jan. 25. The four-hour class is a requirement for all boat crew personnel to maintain their qualifications.
Twenty volunteer auxilarists participated at the station on this cold, windy day, and were pleased that no on-the-water boaters demanded the services of the active Coast Guard although the crew was prepared and ready if need arose. Auxiliary boat crew patrols normally take place from May to October when recreational boating activity is at its peak.
During these winter months, auxiliary personnel training takes center stage; the TCT program was attended by members of flotillas 12-01, 12-02, 12-03, 12-05, 12-08, and 12-09.
The program offered methods for mitigating danger by identifying the risks, using evaluations based on available personnel and equipment, and reducing the risks to auxiliary personnel while providing maximum resources for assisting and aiding recreational boaters. Examples in the program illustrated serious issues in the world of recreational boating which the auxiliary can affect.
