Bethany Blues presents Women in Music during February

Red Letter Day starts calendar with Feb. 1 performance

February is the month of love, and during February, Bethany Blues will show some love to bands with women in the power seat, hosting a unique band designed to recognize and support female talent from Delaware, South Carolina and even Australia.

Red Letter Day comes to The Blues Saturday, Feb. 1. This trio has been performing for more than two decades and includes the beautiful saxophone stylings of Andrea Jones and the guitar work of Suzanna Mallow. They present folk, pop, country, and blues with lots of vocal harmony and heart; go to www.redletterday.com.

The vocals of Australian blues performer Anni Piper come to the stage Friday, Feb. 7. A powerful bass player as well, she is currently on tour in the U.S. in support of her CD, "Chasin’ Tail." Nadjah Nicole takes the stage Saturday, Feb 15.  Nadja refers to herself as a chanteuse who performs soul music with a pop twist. She is a young songstress in pursuitof a musical career. Her voice is rooted in gospel, and she cites Corrine Bailey Ray and Erykah Badu as some of her musical favorites. Slated for Saturday, Feb. 22 is Allyson Taylor. Taylor has a voice that cuts to the bone in its soulful, bluesy, jazzy sass. She is an American original singer, songwriter and and performer in the blue-eyed soul tradition. With funky Southern rhythms and elegant jazzy stylings, she draws from the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Tina Turner and Bobby Gentry; visit www.allyson-taylor.net.

The Patty Reese Band returns to Bethany Blues Friday, Feb. 28, after a stellar performance at the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Fest in October. Winner of 11 Washington Area Music Association Awards including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year, Reese claims influences that include Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.
