Any bets on snow for the Super Bowl?
Hopefully there will be no more snow in New Jersey/New York this weekend. This will be a first for the event being held in a cold weather city out of doors. All the other Super Bowls that were held in cold spots were under a dome. This weekend's Super Bowl is taking place at the Met Life stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The forecast isn't actually calling for any snow but it is supposed to be very windy and cold at game time. If I were a member of the Seattle Seahawks team, which has one of the best overall defenses in the league, I would be very happy with this forecast. The expected conditions should make it hard for the Broncos' offense to score points. The Denver Broncos, being a strong offensive team, would prefer a very still day to pull off plays that involve more passes. I will be rooting for Denver to win for two reasons. The first is that I enjoy watching Peyton Manning and it would be cool to see him win another Super Bowl ring. To me, he is the Johnny Unitas of my generation. The second reason is that Denver's Mike Adams is a really good cornerback who graduated from the University of Delaware. The Seahawks and Broncos are clearly the two best teams in the league this year, so hopefully they will bring us a great game to watch. Fox is making some big bucks getting to air the game this year. I hope the commercials live up to everyone's expectations, too.
The winners of the Australian Open Tennis Championship this past weekend went to the underdogs for both men and women. Li Na from China took the women's singles title, making it the second Grand Slam championship of her career. She won the French Open in 2011. She has been a trailblazer in every sense of the word when she won a fight with the Chinese tennis federation to be able to keep more of her prize money and have the right to pick her own coaches. For the men, Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland claimed a great victory and was able to step out of the shadow of his countryman, Roger Federer. The poor guy has played second fiddle to Federer his entire career. His win was a bit unexpected but Rafael Nadal's back injury helped seal the deal.
With all the cold weather and snow, I'm leaving golf and baseball for later.
