Chimes Foundation gives The Arc of Delaware $2,500

February 2, 2014

The Chimes Foundation has awarded The Arc of Delaware $2,500 in support of its Necessity of Life Fund. This fund is a resource to individuals in Delaware with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help purchase items essential to their quality of life that they would not otherwise be able to afford.

The Necessity of Life Fund was created in 1992 when volunteers noticed that residents at a community group home lacked adequate winter clothing and needed immediate dental care. The fund is used to help group home residents and others in the community who do not have involved families or discretionary income for essentials such as bedding, toiletries, utility payments, groceries, eyeglasses and dental or medical care. The assistance given greatly enhances quality of life for these individuals.

Chimes Foundation provides ongoing financial support for programs and services which enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities. Chimes and The Arc both focus on the goal of ensuring that all people they serve are safe, comfortable and have their essential needs met.

The Arc of Delaware, founded in 1953, is a statewide nonprofit organization devoted to improving and enhancing the quality of life for more than 25,000 Delawareans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc of Delaware supports its mission and its clients by providing housing, employment, case management and outreach, advocacy, self-advocacy and social programs.
