Willie Albert Weston, 64, of Milford, son of the late Olian and Robena Weston was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Engelhard, N.C. He went home to be with the Lord Jan. 26, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, surrounded by family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jordan Moorman.
He worked a total of 36 years for Paramount, Cargill, Allen Foods and Allen Harim. He retired on May 11, 2012, as one of the most dependable maintenance workers they will ever have.
Wille was a faithful member of Burton Chapel AME Church since around 1985. He served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, Vacation Bible School, a member of the Men’s Choir and the Mass Choir. Later, in 1994, he joined New Zion A.M.E. Church where he served as a choir member, trustee and usher. He loved his church and his pastors dearly.
Willie met Wanda Y. Mifflin in November 1972, and they married Nov. 22, 1975. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage, and had six children: Terrell, Trina, Katina, Brian, Andre and Nicole.
Willie’s presence generated love to all people and it took a lot to upset him or to cause him to step outside of his character as a Christian. Adults and children gravitated to him because of who he was and because of the God in him. He loved to talk a lot , but he also liked to listen to other people talk about their problems, their cares or just to talk to them period. He ministered to and cared for the people that so many others might not want to take the time to be with. He enjoyed helping people, just being a blessing to others.
He loved to fix things. He was a jack of all trades and mastered some. He never threw anything away. He always felt that it could be restored and reused, like an iron; they had six! He would rewire them and they actually would work almost as good as new. Willie saw potential in everything. He saw treasure when everybody else saw junk. He could make a song out of anything, such as, “Oh, she burned up the bacon.”
He was a happy person, always laughing and smiling. He celebrated and supported everybody’s good fortune, no matter who it was. Willie was surely a mighty man of God with much faith.
Willie leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Wanda; six children, Terrell Moore of Bellhaven, Trina of VA, Katina (Wilson) Lamontagne of Bridgeville, Brian (Kimberly) Mifflin of Rehoboth, Andre Spencer of Engelhard, N.C. and Nicole Weston of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Belinda (Roy) of Plymouth, N.C. and Katherine Spencer of Greenville, N.C.; four brothers, Donnie (Vivian) Weston of Plymouth, N.C., Micheal (Teresa) Weston of Butner, N.C., Larry (Cheryl) Weston of Engelhard, and Don Allan Weston of Plymouth; six aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Willie’s favorite saying was “God is awesome.” His favorite scripture was Eccl. 3:1, “…...a time for everything.” and one of his favorite songs was, “O, It Is Jesus.”
