Mary Ellen Grinolds receives Pocahontas of the Year Award

Great Past Pocahontas Mary Ellen Grinolds received the 2013 Pocahontas of the Year Award Jan. 10 in recognition of her commitment to the Degree of Pocahontas, Anona Council No. 11. Grinolds received her obligation for membership in the Anona Council No. 11 July 15, 2003, at the Red Men's Lodge in Georgetown.

After learning the stumps of Powhatan and Wenonah, she served Anona Council as Pocahontas in 2009. Currently, she is officiating as the Third Warrior. Grinolds has volunteered to help with several committees, and has been the Prophetess, Guard of the Tepee and the First Runner.

Grinolds has served as the Great Pocahontas at the Great Council Session meeting in 2013 and is now the Great Prophetess of the Great Council of Delaware.

She and her husband, Larry, have been married for 57 years. Her grandson, Billy, is a supervisor for Homeland Security in Louisiana. Joy, her granddaughter, lives in Alabama and works for the Human Resource Agency. The Grinolds enjoy their time with seven great-grandchildren, who range in age from 1 to 18.
