In spite of snow, wind and rain overwhelming the state, the General Assembly and the governor moved with rarely shown speed and finesse, and increased the minimum wage last week. The increase will come in three phases, from $7.25 to $7.75 to $8 an hour starting June 1. June 2014 the third increase will make the minimum wage $8.25 an hour.
While moving forward, finally, with helping more than 50 percent of the population, but $1 is too little too late for most working poor. If the General Assembly and the governor wants to make significant changes in the lifestyle and sustainability of working class Delawareans, a substantial wage increase should be proposed soon.
Acting true to form and according to his well-known attitude toward working Delawareans, Sen. Lopez voted against the minimum wage legislation last year and again this week. He continually shows how out of touch he is with the people in his district and the state. He is clearly unresponsive and out of his depth.
