Beach Buddies learn about presidents

February 25, 2014

Students at Beach Buddies School Age Learning Center in Lewes learned about presidents and state government on Presidents’ Day Feb 17 from Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, and Rep. Stephen Smyk, R-Milton.

The students had many questions for Lopez and Smyck about their respective jobs and how they help communities and schools. The questions and answers moved to a talk about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The representatives emphasized how Washington lost some battles but never gave up, and eventually became the first president of the United States. They also spoke about Lincoln, how he lost elections before he became president, but he also never gave up. They related how students can learn from their mistakes and try again, ask others for help and never give up.

Shown answering questions for the students are Smyk, left, and Lopez.
