Departure from Rome set for Oct. 28; info session March 2

A visit to Rehoboth Beach’s Sister City in Italy, Greve-in-Chianti, and the nearby Verrazzano Castle is being offered as part of a Culinary Cruise to the Mediterranean being conducted this fall by Rehoboth Beach-based Eating Rehoboth guide Paul Cullen and local travel design specialist firm Accent on Travel.

Cullen will host a get-together at 5 p.m., Sunday, March 2, at the Spice and Tea Exchange, 10 Rehoboth Ave., for anyone interested in learning more about the cruise.

The eight-day cruise departs from Rome Tuesday, Oct. 28, with stops in the ports of Florence, Monte Carlo, Provence, Barcelona, and Cartagena, disembarking in Lisbon. Cullen will host two exclusive onboard Tune Your Palate music and wine-tasting events, and will oversee dinners in the famed La Reserve managed by Wine Spectator and Toscana’s restaurants on board the Oceania cruise ship Marina.

Accent on Travel owner Annette Nero-Stellhorn said, “By bringing Paul’s culinary expertise to this trip, travelers will have a cultural immersion into good food, wine and music in addition to the sightseeing available during calls in exciting Mediterranean ports.”

Cullen said, “In addition to the onboard culinary delights on this cruise, we will be offering an optional walking food shopping tour of a fresh market, with a follow-up class in the onboard Bon Appetit Culinary Center.”

Nero-Stellhorn said, “I think many from this area will be interested in seeing our Italian Sister City firsthand, and the cruise participants will want to sign up for the visit with wine tasting at the fabulous Verrazano Castle and winery.”

Nero-Stellhorn is a Sussex County native born to one of the first Italian immigrants in Sussex County at the turn of the century.

The cities of Rehoboth Beach and Greve-in-Chianti signed a Sister Cities agreement in 2010 in recognition of their links to Greve native Giovanni Verrazzano, who was the first explorer to chart the area around Cape Henlopen. In 2012, Greve-in-Chianti dedicated a garden in honor of Rehoboth Beach, which will be the site of the visit. In June 2013, Greve-in-Chianti Mayor Alberto Bencista came to Rehoboth to attend the dedication of the reciprocal garden, the Garden of the Navigators on the corner of Lake Avenue and Third Street. A commemorative monument to Verrazzano sits on the Rehoboth Boardwalk at the end of Olive Avenue.

Nero-Stellhorn, with more than 25 years of professional travel consulting and 74 personal cruise vacation experiences, said Oceania cruise ships are known for their country club casual dress code and award-winning dining. She said travelers signing up now will receive free onboard internet access, prepaid ship gratuities, and exclusive inclusions.
