Evans Farms launches CSA program to provide fresh produce to go

February 28, 2014

Evans Farms, a third-generation family farm in Bridgeville, is taking a fresh approach to putting local produce on more tables in Delaware with its 2014 community supported agriculture program.

A convenient solution for people who love the taste and nutritional benefits of farm-fresh produce but lack the time to shop for it or the resources to grow it, CSA shares come fresh-picked, packed and ready to go for as little as $25 per week. Payment plans are available.

“The boxes are filled with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that we pick at the peak of freshness and hand select for ripeness and flavor,” said Kevin Evans, owner of Evans Farms. “CSAs are most enjoyed by individuals and families that enjoy cooking, trying new things and have an interest in eating fresh, healthy, quality food.”

From early June through October, CSA members receive a bushel-size box of seasonal, local produce. While members can add on specific items like eggs, salad dressings, jams, and jellies, what’s in their weekly boxes is determined by what’s in season. Each share includes generous portions of summertime favorites such as sweet corn and tomatoes, salad staples like lettuce, onions, radishes and cucumbers, and chefs’ picks like chard, beets, and other novelties to experiment with throughout the season.

“CSA members will also receive weekly updates from our farm, family recipes for the produce, local agriculture facts, as well as safe food handling and storage tips,” said Evans. “Our CSA program is a step above a simple convenience. It’s a way to offer fresh produce to go while providing a well-rounded experience that goes beyond what’s on the table.”

Evans Farms offers two share options for its CSA members. Members can choose from a biweekly share option that is delivered for nine weeks throughout the farming season or a weekly share option that is delivered for all 18 weeks throughout the farming season. Evans Farms is offering a limited-time discount to CSA members who pay in full by April 15.
