Young at Art Exhibit to showcase best of Sussex County schools

Exhibit to run March 8 through 23
February 28, 2014

The Rehoboth Art League will host its annual favorite Young at Art Exhibit from March 8 to 23. This exhibition is an opportunity for more than 25 Sussex County public and private schools and area outreach programs to join together and feature some of the wonderful artwork being created by students in local communities. Visual art in many media created by students from elementary, middle and high schools will be on exhibit over the two weeks.

Each school selects 10 top art students to represent their school in the exhibit. Students' work is judged, and ribbons, cash awards and scholarships are presented to winning artists during the opening reception. In addition to first-, second-, and third-place prizes for elementary, middle and high school students, one student in each school will be awarded a Derrickson Scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to creative students interested in art to attend Rehoboth Art League classes of their choice including any materials fee.

Art League Executive Director Sheila Bravo sums up the excitement about this show. “This exhibition reveals the incredible talent and creativity in our schools. We are thrilled to showcase young artists and support art programs in Sussex County schools. Engaging in art stimulates creative thinking, problem-solving and builds self-esteem - important elements in achieving academic excellence,” she said.

Young at Art will open with a reception from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 8. Awards will be presented at 11 a.m. This exhibition provides an opportunity for the young artists of the future to experience what it is like having art in a professional exhibition. The reception is free, and the public is invited to attend.
