Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest now accepting submissions

March 5, 2014

The Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest is now accepting submissions for the 2014 contest. This year’s theme is The Boardwalk, and Browseabout Books is again sponsoring the $500 cash first prize. The top stories selected by the judges will be printed in a book to be published later this year by Cat & Mouse Press. Potential entrants are encouraged to read a copy of "The Beach House," which contains the winning stories from the 2013 contest, to see the kinds of stories that were selected.

The Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest invites writers to submit short (500-3,500 word) fiction or nonfiction beach reads, the kinds of stories people enjoy reading while on vacation. Each story must incorporate the year’s theme and also have a strong connection to Rehoboth Beach (writers do not have to live in Rehoboth).

This year’s theme, The Boardwalk, should offer plenty of room for creativity. The boardwalk could provide the setting for intrigue, romance, humor, or poignant memories. “It’s entirely up to the writers,” says contest organizer Nancy Sakaduski. “The judges like to see fresh approaches, as long as the writers connect with the area and the theme.”

The winning entries from last year were published in "The Beach House," which is available for $15.95 at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

Judges for the 2014 contest are Rich Barnett, Sarah Barnett (no relation to Rich), Lisa Graff, Kristen Gramer, Fay Jacobs, and Ramona DeFelice Long. The judges will select the stories to receive the top prizes and will also award individual judge’s awards for stories they feel deserve special merit.

Writers who want to enter the contest should email their entries to nancy@catandmousepress.com and either mail a check for the entry fee, $10 per entry, up to a maximum of three entries per person, to Cat & Mouse Press, 18508 Belle Grove Road, No. 5, Lewes, DE 19958, or pay online via PayPal using the link on the Cat & Mouse Press website. A complete list of guidelines and entry information is available at www.catandmousepress.com. Contest updates are posted on the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/RehobothBeachReads and in the Cat & Mouse Press newsletter.
