Guests of the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center in Rehoboth Beach will have a brand new pool to dive into this summer.
The ocean side of the hotel will be completely renovated with a new swimming pool, a new sundeck and the new Sandcrab Beach Bar, Sands General Manager Michael Ludden said. Ludden said glass fencing around the pool will allow guests to see the ocean.
Ludden said the deep part of the pool will be in the middle; the pool will be three feet deep on each side, a design that encourages volleyball and other pool games. A new deck will provide access.
Ludden said the changes to the pool area would tie into improvements to 28 suites facing the beach. The work is mostly cosmetic, but would also include new railings, new carpets and drapes, he said. The seawall facing the ocean will also be rebuilt, Ludden said.
The project will improve handicapped accessibility, Ludden said. He said the project started out as a pool replacement, but evolved into a complete revamping of the building facing the ocean. Building Inspector Terri Sullivan said the pool project came about after cracking caused sand to wash into the pool.
The project is expected to be finished by the end of April or the first week of May, but Ludden said that schedule would depend on the weather.
