'Jeremiah's Hunger' author to sign books March 8 at Browseabout

March 4, 2014

Browseabout Books, 133 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, will host a book signing for author Elizabeth Osta from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 8.

Osta's novel, "Jeremiah's Hunger," is a 19th century historical novel. Jeremiah Buckley must bury his own sister and mother in the midst of An Gorta Mor, the Great Hunger, in the small town of Ahadallane in Cork, Ireland. How does he survive?

Osta (nee Buckley/Donegan) writes the answer in this saga that tells of starvation, rebellion and survival. The book follows Jeremiah into the heart of the Irish hillsides and political scene as he fights for Ireland's freedom while continuing to cultivate land for his family's survival during the harsh days that follow the Hunger.

Survival is a topic Osta is familiar with as a survivor of breast cancer. "Jeremiah's Hunger" is based on actual documents and oral history about her great-grandfather, Jeremiah Buckley. The tale of how her grandmother eventually makes her way to America is told in a riveting conclusion.

The book is available through Borealis Press, Ottawa, Canada, at www.borealispress.com/jeremiahshunger.html and also at local independent bookstores. More information is available at www.elizabethosta.com.
