Beacon Middle School sends 10 to all-state chorus

March 18, 2014

Every year, middle school students from Delaware audition for all-state junior chorus. Candidates come from schools in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties. The auditions are blind, meaning the judges do not see the students before or during their auditions. Every student is given a number, and that is how he or she is identified through the audition process. The audition consists of a quartet piece and a sight-signing portion. This year Beacon Middle School sent 17 students to the audition and 10 made all-state, the highest number of any school in Sussex County. Beacon student Savannah Robinson placed first in the auditions. These 10 students performed with other all-state chorus members in a Feb. 22 concert.

Gathered in Beacon's music room are in back (l-r) Director Juleeann Schlitter, Mary Grace Cannon, Bailey Hesson, Savannah Robinson, Haley Schnupp, Madison Metcalf and Will Warick. In front are Franco Solornano, Summer Dunmyer, Brianna Johnson and Hannah Wolk.
