Barkfest raises funds for Delaware SPCA

March 16, 2014

The Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Irish Eyes Lewes presented checks to the Delaware SPCA in Georgetown March 7 from the Valentine’s Day weekend Lewes Winter Fest Barkfest events.

The very popular YappyHour at Irish Eyes took place as scheduled in February where dogs and people who like to "yap" gathered on the Irish Eyes porch to feast on delicious food and refreshing libations. Area businesses and organizations made donations for raffle drawing prizes, and a 50/50 raffle raised $2,400 in two hours for the Delaware SPCA.

Irish Eyes made an additional donation to them based on a percentage of the food revenue that day - this year it was $500. This year’s total was the highest revenue generated in the four years that the YappyHour has taken place. The eighth year of the Pet Pageant, scheduled to take place the next day, had to be cancelled due to torrential rains.

Shown at the check presentation at Irish Eyes are (l-r) Sam Bowers, P.U.P.S. of Lewes; Lesley Bowers, event chair and owner of sponsor P.U.P.S. of Lewes; Betsy Reamer, Lewes Chamber executive director; Joanne Murphy, volunteer and development coordinator of the Delaware SPCA in Georgetown; Kathy Davison, volunteer from event sponsor Comcast Spotlight; and Tom Jones, Irish Eyes owner.
