Delaware HVAC and plumbing company moves to 100 percent recycling

As of Jan. 1, businesses, nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and other organizations throughout the state of Delaware are required to enact some sort of recycling program for materials such as paper, aluminum, glass, and plastic. And while the current requirements are fairly relaxed, local propane, oil, plumbing, and HVAC company Peninsula has already made the move to go 100 percent recycling. The company now provides each staff member with a blue recycling bin for his or her desk and encourages recycling of all waste.

The move comes in response to a statewide effort to increase recycling to 50 percent of the waste stream by 2015, up 10 points from the current 40 percent.

Current minimum requirements for the program include little more than a token effort, such as placing a small amount of cardboard into a recycling bin. These requirements will expand over time, with penalties for noncompliance eventually reaching $100 to $1,500 per day.

Peninsula President John Willey II is excited about the switch to 100 percent recycling. “At Peninsula, we’re always striving to find ways to better serve our customers and our community. We all know how important recycling is for the environment, and doing so is just one more way we can give back to our neighbors who have already given us so much,” Willey said.
