Ocean to Bay Bike Tour takes off for 25th year April 26
The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that PNC Bank is the presenting sponsor of the 25th Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour. The silver anniversary of the tour, scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26, is a great opening ride to the Mid-Atlantic cycling season and offers something for everyone, beginners and experienced cyclists alike.
This award-winning event, organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, offers cyclists a 5-, 30- or 50-mile and Metric Century scenic route of a relaxing ride on flat terrain.
“With the Ocean to Bike Tour celebrating its 25th anniversary, the chamber wanted to make it a full weekend for the 2,500 cyclists and their families and friends,” says chamber Executive Director Kristie Maravalli. Besides the Metric Century route option, new to commemorate the silver anniversary is the Voler 25th anniversary jersey that can be delivered right to a participant's doorstep.
The party begins at noon, Friday, April 25, and runs to 8 p.m. at Bike Tour Expo, where riders will be able to do packet pickup and some last-minute shopping from local vendors. The Continue the Tour pass will allow riders a $5 voucher to use in the expo, post-party tent, and chamber businesses in the Quiet Resorts community.
To make it a full weekend affair, the Inaugural Ocean to Bay 4-Miler run presented by Magnolia’s Restaurant will take place starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, April 27, in Magnolia's parking lot. Participants will run through the beautiful surroundings of Fresh Pond State Park and receive a full post-race breakfast buffet as well as a 2014 Splash Beach Towel. The cost is $25.
Anyone interested in participating in the bike tour and/or the 4-miler should register soon, as the chamber is anticipating another sellout event. Cyclists can register by mail, email or online.
