Superintendent sets record straight

March 21, 2014

As a western Sussex County public school superintendent, I was appointed to serve on the Sussex Tech Tax Rate Review Committee.

In this capacity, I represented the school districts of Sussex County as a Sussex Tech tax rate increase was considered, discussed and recommendations finalized respective of moving forward as per state code.

I feel the committee did meet its obligation and prepared materials to be moved forward, as appropriate, to the legislature.

However, at no time did I state, infer or agree that “...Sussex Tech needs to increase Sussex County property taxes to pay for operating expenses...”

I did confirm and agree that the committee met its obligation as prescribed in code.
