Coastal Concerts presents scholarships to local students

Coastal Concerts presented $1,500 scholarships to two local students during its season finale concert March 22. At the presentation are (l-r) Alison Van Vort, a senior at Milford High School; Denise Emery, Coastal Concerts president; Barbara Passikoff, a member of the Coastal Concerts Outreach Committee; and Marius Sander, an 11th-grader at St. Thomas More Academy.

The scholarships are awarded competitively based on talent, teacher recommendations, personal essays and academic excellence.

Van Vort, who plays French horn, and Sander, a violinist, were recognized in front of an audience of more than 300. Since 2006, Coastal Concerts has presented 19 scholarships totaling $16,500.
