Lewes parks and rec meets March 31
Lewes Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, March 31, at city hall. The panel will discuss the final draft of the city’s memorial bench and tree policy as well as the 2014 Arbor Day program at George H.P. Smith Park. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.
Coons to address GLF meeting April 12
The keynote address at the Saturday, April 12 annual meeting of the Greater Lewes Foundation will be presented by Delaware Sen. Chris Coons.
The GLF will also present its annual Community Service awards during the meeting, which will last from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the upstairs meeting room of the Lewes Public Library. Joe Stewart, chair of the GLF, will discuss the foundation’s most recent achievements and its priorities for 2015. Copies of the GLF annual report for 2013-14 will be distributed.
Coons works hard to find bipartisan solutions to the issues confronting Delaware and the nation. He serves on the foreign relations, judiciary, appropriations and budget committees. Coons is a leading advocate for conservation programs that help protect Delaware’s wildlife and habitat, water quality, open space on agricultural lands, and access for hunters, fishermen, and other recreationists. The public is invited, with seating limited to the first 120 RSVPs. Anyone wishing to attend should call 302-644-0107 to reserve a seat.
Rehoboth trash pickup schedule changes
Rehoboth Beach’s trash pickup schedule will change to twice per week starting Monday, April 21. On each Monday and Thursday, trash will be picked up on the south side of the city, with the north side and Schoolvue picked up on Tuesday and Friday. In the commercial areas, trash will be picked up Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Residents and businesses are reminded that the trash barrels on the avenues and on the Boardwalk are for general public use only. For any questions, call City Hall, 302-227-6181.
Rehoboth approves $17.3 million budget
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners unanimously approved the city’s $17.3 million budget at their March 21 meeting.
The budget, which goes into effect Tuesday, April 1, features no tax or parking fee increases.
Rehoboth approves fire hydrant project bid
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners unanimously approved a $93,000 bid by Wachs Water Services to conduct a multiphase maintenance project for the city’s fire hydrants.
The project will include inspection of all the hydrants and their valves as well as flow testing and GPS mapping to have precise locations of all the hydrants. Wachs was granted the bid despite not being the lowest bidder; the commissioners and city engineer Bob Palmer believed Wachs, an Illinois-based company, was best qualified for the job.
Sussex council awards nonprofit grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its March 25 meeting: $1,000 to Millville Volunteer Fire Company toward purchase of a $70,000 traffic control unit; $500 to Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department for the Alley Cat Competition Dance Troupe; and $500 to City of Seaford for its annual Nanticoke Riverfest. Council also awarded a $1,000 youth grant to Delaware Ducks Unlimited for its annual Greenwing event.
Building height limits topic of workshop
Building height limits will be the topic of a workshop hosted by Sussex County Council at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, in the west complex building off Route 113 in Georgetown. The workshop will feature presentations from county staff and Delaware Department of Transportation officials.
Council and members of the planning and zoning commission and the board of adjustment will discuss the county’s regulations and determine if county code should be amended.
Sussex council will discuss discarded tires
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, in the county administration building on The Circle in Georgetown.
Included on the agenda are a discussion of the storage of waste tires and the annual Sussex County League of Women Voters presentation.

Rehoboth offices to close Good Friday
The Rehoboth Beach administrative offices will be closed Friday, April 18, for Good Friday.
There will be no trash pickup April 18; regular trash pickup will resume Monday, April 21.
