Seaside Jewish Community, in conjunction with Seashore Striders, will present its second annual Oy Vey 5K, a 5K run, dog-friendly walk and kids’ races to benefit educational programs at Seaside. The race will be held Sunday, April 6, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the race starting at 8 a.m.

Registration, start and finish will be at Seaside, 18970 Holland Glade Road in Rehoboth Beach. There will be plenty of free parking at the Rehoboth Beach Little League fields adjacent to the synagogue.

Preregistration by Thursday, April 3, is $20. Race-day registration is $25.

The course will go 3.1 miles from Seaside through the Junction and Breakwater Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park.

“The initial idea for the race came from several runners at Seaside, including me, who thought this would be a great way to move into spring, promote something healthy and raise money for our educational programs all at the same time,” says Joel Simon, EdD, coordinator of the race. “In addition, we have a walk and kids’ runs that make it fun and exciting for the whole family, even the dog.”

Seashore Striders Event Production will utilize precision Chronotrack Chip timing and finish-line services. Prizes will be awarded in nine age groups from 9 years old to 70 and over.

The first 100 registrants will receive unisex tech T-shirts. In addition, all water stops and refreshments after the race will be provided.

For information on the race, contact Tim Bamforth at 302-644-8952 or tim@seashorestriders.com or Joel Simon at 302-245-1386. Registration is available online at www.seashorestriders.com, or by mail at Seashore Striders, P.O. Box 99, Nassau, DE 19969.
