Free event features first-time postal hand cancels in Milton
April 12, 2014

The 25th Anniversary Stamp Show of the Sussex County Stamp Club will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at the Milton Fire Department, 116 Front St. in Milton. Admission is free.

Thanks to sponsors, there will be hourly door prizes and free stamps for kids. Don Sundman’s Mystic Stamp Company of Camden, N.Y., and Henry Adams Kenmore Stamp Company of Milford N.H., have both donated stamps and albums. Local supporters are Dogfish Head Brewery, Jerry Beaven’s A.W.E. and Irish Eyes in Milton; all have donated prizes. Winners must be present to claim the prizes.

The SCSC Dealers Bourse will contain some of the best in stamp collecting (philatelic materials and supplies) including The Stamp Center/Dutch Country Auctions, Clarke Stamps, Fische Stamps, Ryan Terlecky’s 10 Cents a Stamp, Raymond’s Stamps, Mark and Diane’s Post Cards and more. The bourse will feature 15 dealers in all.

A postal substation will be on hand where visitors will be allowed to have letters hand cancelled with either the 25th Anniversary of SCSC or The Horseshoe Crab Festival cancels in conjunction with the town of Milton. These stamp cancels are only available at the show May 3. Once the show closes, the cancels will be gone forever.

The Stamp Clubs of Delmarva will be on hand to assist collectors. For the first time in the history of shows in the state of Delaware, every club will be represented at the show. Visitors can speak to a representative and join a club in their area May 3. Representatives will be there to sign up children free to the Sussex County Junior Club.

The club was formed in 1989 in Sussex County. Meetings are held at St. John’s Hall on Federal Street in Milton.

SCSC was formed by Frank J. Morris and named The Lewes Stamp Club after the retired club, eventually becoming the Sussex County Stamp Club in 1989. It is an also affiliated chapter of The American Philatelic Society in Bellefonte, Pa.

Membership in SCSC is $15 a year. The Junior Club is free. To find out more, go to and click on Join SCSC or email
