Sussex Central baseball beats Cape 9-5

April 10, 2014

The Cape baseball team dropped to 2-4 on the young season, losing at Sussex Central April 9 by a Dolly Parton score of 9-5.

The worst news is that Cape plays at Salesianum Saturday, April 12, after a Friday stop in Seaford. Sallies beat Sussex Central earlier in the season 18-2. Seaford is 2-2 and back to respectability; they are no walkover.

The Knights were led offensively by Brian Carroll, 3-4 with 5 RBIs, and Robbie Marcelle, 3-4 with 3 RBIs. Catcher Deron Doherty had a pair of hits for Central. The Golden Knights' pitcher Sal Ingrassia scattered 5 hits over 5 innings of work to pick up the victory.

Jason Wilberg led the Vikings with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Griffin Kammerer also collected a pair of hits.

“We haven’t tapped into the right chemistry with this team,” said assistant coach Dave Vitella. “We knew we would miss the pitching of Diaz Nardo, but we’ve got to play better defense.”

Cape had 3 errors against the Golden Knights, who had none, which led to extra outs and extra runs.
