Sussex Consortium students learn real-world math skills

April 29, 2014

Sussex Consortium students, with calculators or lists in hand, sometimes hop a bus to a local store and learn to apply the math skills they are learning in the classroom. They are working on a variety of money skills, such as determining if they have enough cash to purchase an item, determining the best price on an item, or adding up the projected cost of several items they need to purchase.
The community visits are an invaluable time of teaching and learning. They are helpful to the future independence of these students. The Cape Region community supports these students as they venture into real-life scenarios to reinforce their learning. Ryan Davies is shown practicing his math skills by purchasing items in the community.
