Beacon girls set records in winning Jim Blades Middle School Invitational

The Beacon Academy girls' track team set three meet records and dropped one baton, doubling down the competition to win the Jim Blades Middle School Track and Field Invitational, scoring 133.5 points to outdistance Chipman 64, Smyrna 56 and Fifer 50.

Zoe Scott led the way for Beacon, setting meet records in the high jump at 5 feet 2 inches and triple jump at 32 feet, 6 inches; she also anchored the winning 4-by-200 relay behind Rose Minni, Katie Frederick and Jodey Boyer in 1:57.7.

Alia Marshall set a meet record by winning the 400 meters in 1:03. Marshall also won the long jump in 14 feet, 9 inches.

Annie Judge won the 55-meter hurdles in 9.1 seconds, and Sam Wyatt was third for Beacon in the same event.

Beacon's distance star Logan Shuttleworth missed the meet with an injury, but Beacon covered the 800 by earning 10 points with Zoe Callard getting second in 2:51 and Mel McCloy sixth in 3:02.

The 1,600 saw Beacon sixth grader Olivia Brozefsky grab second in 6:11 and Mel McCloy third in 6:20.

Mariner sprinter Lekendra Harpe won the 200 meters in 27.2 seconds.

The Beacon boys' team placed second with 98 points behind Postlewaite's 109.5 points.

The Mariner boys' team placed ninth with 12 points, while the girls' team placed 10th with 16 points.

Event winners for the boys from Beacon and Mariner included Dane Palmer in the 400, 57.3; Aidan Spoor of Mariner in the 800, 2:21; Sam Nye of Beacon in the 1,600, 5:14; Michael Loessner of Beacon won the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 10 inches.
