Everett "Rhett" "Sonny" Warrington Jr., former Rehoboth resident

Everett "Rhett" "Sonny" Warrington Jr., 70, of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring surrounded by his family. Born in Dover, he had resided in Florida since 2007, moving from Rehoboth Beach.

He began his sales career at the age of 11 by earning a bicycle selling subscriptions for the Wilmington Sunday Star. He was a graduate of Dover High School and attended Ball State University where he took classes for pediatric podiatry. He served in the U.S. Army and later was transferred to the Delaware National Guard and he received a marksman badge, medal for aid to civil authority, and he specialized as a radio teletypewriter operator.

He spent his working career as a sales executive within the children's shoe industry, being the recipient of many performance awards. He touched the lives of young and old alike and was particularly known by his quotes, one of which was "choices and consequences." He always desired to touch all that would listen through his gift of conversation. Throughout this life he enjoyed being a regular on American Bandstand, drag racing and coaching his sons' various sports teams. He will be remembered by many generations of children for the care and guidance he was always willing to provide.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nora Warrington, St. Augustine; son Sean Warrington and his wife, Rhonda, St. Johns, Fla., son Ryan Warrington, St. Augustine, son and future daughter-in-law, Jamie Warrington and daughter Maureen Sullivan, Raleigh, N.C.; sister Kay Peer and her husband, John, Leipsic; sister-in-law, Jean Warrington, Dover; grandchildren, Tina Wiles, Taylor Warrington Purcell, Caitlyn Warrington, Brady Warrington; and great-grandchild, Emily Wiles. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett H. Warrington Sr., his mother and stepfather, Hilda and George Balderson; and a brother, Robert Warrington.

A celebration of his life was held Saturday, April 12, at the Moultrie Oaks Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, donation can be sent to: Everett H. Warrington Jr. Memorial Fund, C/O Wells Fargo, 4285 US Highway 1 South St. Augustine FL 32086 Attn: Brooks Davis.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
