Bill E. Mullen Sr., Marine Corps veteran

Bill Edward Mullen Sr., 86, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his residence. He was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. Mullen proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He loved all sports, but his love was baseball. While serving his country, he played baseball. Mr. Mullen had the opportunity of a lifetime playing baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers. After retiring as an automobile wholesaler in 2005, he took time to enjoy the little things in life. Mr. Mullen enjoyed trips to the casinos and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a generous man with a giving spirit.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by a son in 1997, David Mullen. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Wren) Mullen; two sons: Gregory P. Mullen and his companion Kevin Sweeny, and Bill E. Mullen Jr. and wife Lisa, all of Rehoboth Beach; one granddaughter, Julia Mullen, and one grandson, William Mullen, both of Rehoboth Beach; a cousin, Denver Shaffer of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the services at Epworth UMC Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Epworth UMC, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
