Millsboro Lions conduct Tabs for George drive

April 25, 2014

Millsboro Lions Club members collected aluminum soda tabs in memory of George Garrity Benton, who was born with several congenital heart defects. After multiple open-heart surgeries and a heart transplant, George lost his tremendous fight to get better.

During his stay at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, George's family lived at the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware for eight months to be close to him. The money generated from cashing in the tabs, given by the Lions, will assist with the utility costs of the facility. George's family is encouraging others to donate to Tabs for George to help support the Ronald McDonald House charities. The Millsboro Lions Club also gave a monetary donation to the Ryan Scott Kappes Foundation in celebration of George's second heart birthday.

Shown (l-r) are Tara Parkhurst and Savannah, Keith, and Mandy Benton with King Lion Sandy Wilson.
