Marisa Chaves and Chiqui Gavilan exchange vows

After 22 years of bliss, Marisa Chaves and Chiqui Gavilan (nee Adelina Reyes-Gavilan) were united in marriage Wednesday, April 16, in a private ceremony at their home in Rehoboth Beach. Deputy Clerk of The Peace Annie Besche officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Marylou Dodge and Jeanne Embich were the maids of honor, and Libby, the family Portuguese water dog, and her cousin Lulu were the bridesmaids.

A moveable feast of celebrations with family and friends will follow soon in New York City and Rehoboth Beach, and the couple is planning a trans-Atlantic wedding cruise.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Chaves and Gavilan are residential real estate professionals licensed in New York with The Corcoran Group and in Delaware with Long & Foster. Prior to her career in real estate, Chaves, 57, was a senior sales and marketing executive in the television and radio industries in Miami, Fla., and New York City.  She graduated from the University of South Florida with a BS in finance.  She is the daughter of Francisco Chaves and the late Maria Isabel Chaves.

Gavilan, 54, held several senior positions at Reuters, the global financial services company; was an associate at the New York law firm of Weil Gotshal & Manges; and served as senior program officer for Latin America at the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University and received her law degree from Georgetown University Law School. She is the daughter of Adelina Laurenti and the late Rogelio Reyes-Gavilan.
