Submit entries for Delmarva on View Photography Contest by June 14

Exhibit begins June 28
May 12, 2014

Delmarva on View Photography Contest & Exhibit call for artists is now underway for the fifth year at the Lewes Public Library in Lewes. All photographers with their very first camera or established professionals are invited to participate and tell their story in photographs of the Delmarva Peninsula.

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library and curator JuneRose Futcher were extremely pleased that submissions were tripled and money raised due to brisk sales in 2013.

The revitalized program is resulting in enthusiastic and growing participation from across the Delmarva Peninsula. Ed Goyda, Lewes Public Library executive director, credits Futcher with creative programming and dedication to a major publicity campaign.

Goyda is especially pleased that a more broad community of artists participated and attended the opening reception. Many photographs submitted were magical landscapes of the golden hour, architectural impressionism and robust wildlife native to the peninsula landscape.

Artists are encouraged to participate from the greater peninsula communities and surrounding states of Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Arrangements may be made with Futcher for special delivery and submission. With the inaugural professional category doing so well, Futcher anticipates equal if not more submissions. Professional artists may be working in their craft in photojournalism, marketing, education and many other fields in the business.

This year, the competition and exhibit will feature five subjects; one amateur special effects submission, and the expanded photographic selection of five years. The youth class also grew substantially, and organizers encourage the community and teachers to inspire young artists in area schools to enter this year.

Friends of the Lewes Public Library President Candace Vessella said last year was the most successful ever and she is looking forward to the creativity to be exhibited by all artists.

Subjects for submission of framed photographs are Delmarva Icons, The Delaware Bay & Atlantic Coast, Four Seasons, The Golden Hour and Wildlife.

The team of judges, composed of gifted professionals and highly regarded photographers, takes into consideration multiple photographic elements such as composition, lighting and originality. The returning judges are Deny Howeth, Keith Mosher, Pamela Aquilani, Marc Weinberg and new to the team are Angie Moon and Tony Pratt. As a gesture of appreciation, they are being invited to exhibit one of their signature photographs in Delmarva on View.

Photographs may be submitted through Saturday, June 14. The judging session will convene later in June, and winners will be notified by telephone and email approximately seven days prior to the opening. The exhibit and sale will proceed for several weeks following the opening Saturday, June 28, at the Lewes Public Library. Entry fees and framing requirements will apply.
