The Cape girls' lacrosse team defeated once-beaten Polytech April 29 at Champions Stadium 17-7, riding the wave of a 9-2 first-half surge.

The win was a much-needed affirmation that Cape is still the hunted team in Delaware after the Vikings dropped three straight games to out-of-state powers Manheim Township, Worcester Prep and Queen Anne's County.

The Cape stat line has Sarah Tappan with 4 goals, Allie Yeager 3, Kat Judge 2, Lexi Woodruff 2,  Karalyn Joseph 2, Cailey Thornburg 2,  Jordan Brown 1 and Tess Bernheimer 1.

Assists were by Yeager with 3, Joseph 2, Judge 1, and Bernheimer 1.

The Panthers were paced by Jamie Trabaudo with 5 goals and Ali Mckay with 2. Kristin Wissler had an assist.

Cape outshot Polytech 37-16.

Sam Broadhurst was credited with 7 saves while the Panthers' Taylor Lyin with 8 and Lauren Lee with 4 shared goaltending duties.

Cape will host Bishop Ireton at 7 p.m., Friday, May 2.
