Howell thanks Dewey community after fire

May 11, 2014

We want to thank everyone who has so generously reached out to us after the fire at our cottage. The offers of clothes, places to stay, food and other necessities of life have been so heartwarming. We are truly touched. The list is long, but we want to especially thank Justin Healy, Kathleen Schell and the team at Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's Realty, Dewey Beach Lions Club, Mike Fegan and our wonderful neighbors on Saulsbury Street, Dave and Trish Davis, Marcia Schieck and Rich Hanewinckel, Hal Dukes, Stephanie Dohinian, Jimmy O’Connor, Rich Evans, Al Grimes, and the good people at All Saints'. The shock of such an unexpected tragedy is hard to deal with when it happens, but the warmth and love we have felt from so many has cushioned the sense of loss and helped us deal with the practical problems in recovering.

Thank you to everyone named above and to the many, many others who offered their condolences and help if needed. Dewey is a wonderful community of friends who help each other. Also if anyone knows of a single-story cottage that needs to be torn down or moved we are hoping to possibly use a recycled home, so please contact us as soon as possible.

Many many thanks, Garland Williams, Eleanor Williams and former Dewey Beach Commissioner Joy Howell.
