Participants of SDTR’s beach ride a success

May 17, 2014

Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding Inc.would like to thank all of the dedicated participants and volunteers who attended our 17th Annual Spring Beach Ride & Walk held at Cape Henlopen State Park April 12. Mother nature provided a beautiful spring day for many old and new friends to enjoy a fun day at the beach in support of the program!

There were 50 devoted horseback riders and walkers from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey who made this a very successful fundraiser. The grand total raised was over $7,536.

The top fundraiser was Marisa Conti who raised $698, and the second highest was 14-year-old Melissa Stafford who raised $685. Plus, long time SDTR rider, Alex Layton, raised over $300! Congratulations to the top earners and everyone else who raised funds to support SDTR.

All proceeds directly benefit SDTR, which provides equine-assisted activities to adults and children with physical, emotional and mental challenges in Sussex County and nearby communities. The money raised from this year’s ride will go toward horse care for the program’s four-legged therapists and rider scholarships, which enable riders to participate regardless of financial ability.
