Artisans Fair May 24 highlights Delmarva artists and products

May 7, 2014

For the seventh year, the Artisans Fair is returning as one of the major events for Memorial Day weekend at the beach. A showcase of some of the best handmade work from artists in a wide range of media from throughout Delmarva, the fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at Lord Baltimore Elementary School on Route 26 in Ocean View.

“We are overwhelmed at the success of this event and its growing popularity each year,” said fair coordinator Ione Phillips. “We are pleased to offer our communities this chance to see some of the best artistic talent in our area.”

This year’s 50 exhibitors will offer artwork, pottery, photography, jewelry, glass, metalwork, wood, and textiles.

“We pride ourselves on selecting exhibitors who offer high-quality items for sale at affordable prices,” Phillips noted.

The show, sponsored by South Coastal Delaware AARP, is not only a panorama of beautiful things; its proceeds go directly back into the area through scholarships offered to youth and adults.

In addition to the artwork, attendees can find an incredibly large bake sale of homemade items from the kitchens of the chapter’s 500 members. An auction featuring contributions from exhibitors is another fair highlight.

This year the fair will include lunch on the grounds featuring a variety of selections including barbecue, hot dogs, crab cake and chicken salad sandwiches plus more, with catering provided by MAC’s Catering of Millville.

The event is free to the public with ample free parking.
