SOLitude's Volunteer of the Quarter focuses on environmental sustainability opportunities

May 14, 2014

Through its corporate volunteering program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the eastern United States, named J. Wesley Allen, environmental scientist, as Volunteer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2014.

Allen has been instrumental in identifying several new environmentally focused volunteer opportunities, recruiting staff and their family members to join him, and participating in team volunteer events.

In the first quarter, Allen and SOLitude teammate Greg Blackham volunteered several times for the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife to remove exotic invasive vegetative species from Cedar Swamp in Smyrna. The two also worked to protect the Delaware shorelines at the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean by volunteering in the annual beach grass planting event at Delaware Seashore State Park. Allen volunteered his services with the rest of SOLitude’s Delaware team at an annual Polar Plunge put on by the Brandywine Valley Association, an environmental nonprofit that offers educational programming as well as conservation and reclamation efforts for the local watersheds.

Also on behalf of SOLitude and The SOLution, Allen took the initiative to adopt a Delaware State Parks trail. He and his SOLitude teammates now monitor and maintain a section of the trail.

The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages the company and all employees to strive to create a better world through volunteerism, community outreach, sustainability and environmental consciousness.
