Experience make Osler, Mahaffie best candidates

May 8, 2014

Why I'm voting for Bonnie Osler and Mike Mahaffie? Nearly 18 years of City of Lewes experience.

Bonnie has just completed her first term sitting on the City Council, and I think she's done well. Bonnie is an acknowledged leader in our community life, serving as the spokesperson for the Historic Lewes Farmers Market and active with the Greater Lewes Community Village. She is aware and experienced in the complex issues that face the town and knowledgeable about the two very controversial public hearings coming up.

Bonnie was a leader in city government in advocating for a planning consultant, she guided the work on drafting and finalization of the RFP and chaired the first coordinating committee meeting on the selection process. Without question she is a leader on the most vital issue facing this city, enhancing city's management capacity to deal with planning issues. She gets it and deserves another term at the table to see the process completed.

Mike, with 15 years sitting on the Planning and Zoning Commission brings experience, expertise and connections he acquired while working closely with not only the city but with the Delaware Office of State Planning Coordination and other Delaware state offices. He knows his way around state government and how they can help Lewes.

Recently, a Rob Morgan supporter told me he is "at least coachable." Exactly! On the council you have to be able to think on your feet and decide on the spot. There is no time for a coaching recess. You have to know the issues going in, and in reality, this takes some time to master. Mr. Morgan has over the top educational credentials but not on Lewes issues which is what counts, because unfortunately, that comes from the school of hard knocks, over the years. No doubt Mr. Morgan will be able to make a contribution to Lewes government after a few more years of experience - but not now. Experience counts.

Experience is especially critical now. Lewes is in a stage of transition with a new mayor and a city council to which the citizens have elected a new member in each of the last three elections. This is the least experienced line-up in the last 30 years. Let's move Lewes forward with an experienced council

Please support Bonnie Osler and Mike Mahaffie.
