Delmarva Board Sports opens second paddleboarding lifestyle shop in Rehoboth

Variety of events slated this summer
May 15, 2014

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony April 2 for Delmarva Board Sports' new Rehoboth Beach location. Members of the chamber’s meet & greet committee were present to congratulate Delmarva Board Sports on the opening of its second store.

Delmarva Board Sports, the area’s original and leading paddleboard adventure company with a waterfront shop in Fenwick Island, recently opened a second paddleboard shop in Rehoboth Beach in the Shoppes of Camelot, on Coastal Highway across from Ruby Tuesday.

Delmarva Board Sports offers paddleboard and windsurf rentals, lessons, excursions and tax-free, try before you buy sales. They carry a wide variety of quality brands as well as accessories and paddleboarding apparel. With an online scheduling system, scheduling a rental or excursion is as simple as going to www.paddlesecondchance.com. Browse the many excursions they offer, and even purchase products online, or call 302-260-9008.

“We are the paddleboard shop for real people”, says Janis Markopoulos, the company’s owner. “We take the time to listen to our customers and provide them with free information on the various types of paddleboards so they are able to make an informed decision within their budget. We will also make professional recommendations on where folks should start if they are interested in getting into the paddleboarding or windsurfing. Sometimes hopping on board one of our fun and relaxing paddleboard excursions is the place to start; for others it’s scheduling a try before you buy test drive so our customers are 100 percent comfortable with their purchase decision. Some even decide to put a board on layaway and pay for it over a three-month term.”

Delmarva Board Sports carries paddleboards of all shapes, sizes and construction, such as starter recreational boards for the family, inflatables, boards specifically designed for kids, touring boards for exploration or physical fitness, boards designed for SUP yoga, higher-performance carbon race boards, windsurfable paddleboards and more.

Delmarva Board Sports is not a typical surf shop. Not only do customers get a hug when they buy a board and a handwritten thank you note, they are welcomed into the family with Free Excursions for Life. This means board customers can bring their boards along on future lessons/excursions for free forever!

Delmarva Board Sports has several events coming up that may appeal to families with kids. First is Youth Stand Up Paddle Day, Sunday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Rehoboth Beach at Tower Road bayside beach off Route 1 south. (Rain date: Monday, May 19, 6 to 8 p.m.)

All kids ages 8 and up can come out and try paddleboarding for only $5. Parents can take advantage of reduced rates for self-serve paddleboard rentals. To participate, kids must know how to swim, they must wear life vests and they must have a parent or adult guardian present to sign a waiver. To register, call 302-260-9008 by Friday, May 16.

Second, parents can register their kids for a new paddleboarding team that will be offered during the month of June called the Sussex County Paddleboard Team sponsored by Delmarva Board Sports. Biweekly (Sunday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 p.m.) paddleboard practices will be held during the month of June in Bethany Beach that will prepare kids for their first fun race June 28 at Holts Landing State Park. Each practice is only $5 and includes coaches, gear and instruction. Kids can attend as many practices as they’re able to, but they do not have to attend every one. To register, call 302-260-9008.

Third, Delmarva Board Sports is a proud sponsor of an annual paddleboard festival and race benefitting Operation Second Chance, called Paddle Second Chance. The race is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, at Holts Landing State Park, and several divisions are supported from kids to adult recreational to elite. To register or get more information go to www.paddlesecondchance.com. The kids race division fee is $20 and adults is $65.
