Ann G. Mayes Olewnik, enjoyed ceramics

Ann G. Mayes Olewnik, 89, of Lewes, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Ann retired as a dietary supervisor at the Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She had previously worked at Dravo Shipyard and helped her parents at their grocery store in Elsmere. In her spare time she enjoyed making ceramics. Ann was also a member of Harbeson United Methodist Church in Lewes.

Ann will be dearly missed by her sons, Fred J. Mayes (Linda A.) and John J. Mayes (Charlotte A.); sister, Carol Knisely; grandchildren, Fred, John (Tracy); Christina (Richard), and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren; and former husband, Fred A. Mayes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon C. Olewnick, who passed away in 1993; parents, John and Laura Garvin; and six brothers and sisters.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark. A service will follow at 11 am. Burial will be private in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
