Lewes's Children's Learning Garden kicks off season May 17
The Children's Learning Garden, established in April 2013 in Stango Park, Lewes, is kicking off its second season Saturday, May 17. Children will be planting vegetables and flowers, and making stepping stones. Children may bring their own nature objects for the stones.
The mission of the garden is to create a learning garden where families can see how local fruits, flowers and vegetables grow. The garden provides hands-on experiences through activities supervised by Lewes In Bloom volunteers and community members.
A garden-inspired Monday morning story hour, led by Maureen Miller, Lewes children's librarian, will begin June 2 at 10: 30 a.m. Weekly zumba, yoga, music and cooking classes will begin Friday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. Special events and planting days will be posted at lewesinbloom.org.The events are free, but the group does accept donations. Checks can be sent to Lewes In Bloom, PO Box 308, Lewes, DE 19958, marked for the Children's Garden.
June events will include Jams and Jellies, June 7 at 1 p.m., Farmer McGregor, Healthy Eating, June 14 at 11 a.m., and Animal Storytelling, Dixie Goldon, June 28, at 11 a.m. The children must be accompanied by an adult.
