Concert in the Garden set at All Saints’ Church May 18 in Rehoboth

May 14, 2014

A concert version of the award-winning musical "Hello, Dolly!" will be offered at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 18, in Olly’s Garden adjacent to All Saints’ Church in Rehoboth Beach.

"Hello, Dolly!," one of the most enduring musical theater hits, enjoying three Broadway revivals and international success, was also made into a 1969 film that was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Carol Denenberg, Cheryl Graves and Shellie Wood, all parish choir members, will share monologues and sing the parts of Dolly Levi, Irene Malloy and Minnie Fay, respectively. They will be joined by other choir members, with Randy Brewster as Cornelius Hackel and Dean Donovan as Barnaby Tucker. Horst Boehlendorf, who will sing Horace Vandergelder’s “It takes a Woman,” rounds out the cast.

The remaining parish choir members will perform selected songs from this musical to delight concert-goers. Leading the performance will be Alex Helsabeck, director of music at All Saints’ Church, and accompanying will be Rehoboth Beach’s favorite piano man, Doug Yetter. The approximately 50-minute concert will open with a short medley of songs from another very popular musical.

The concert is open to the public at no charge; a free-will offering will be taken. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or a blanket. All Saints’ Church is at 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. For more information, contact the parish office at 302-227-7202 or go to www.allsaintsrehoboth.org.
