RAL selects Paul Rendel to capture Cottage Tour homes on canvas
Rehoboth Art League member Paul Rendel has been selected to capture the essence of the eight homes on the 2014 Cottage Tour of Art. This year’s Cottage Tour will include seven exceptional private homes and the Homestead, a 1743 Colonial home listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and located on the Rehoboth Art League campus.
Rendel’s paintings of the homes will be featured in the Cottage Tour program booklet. Rendel studied at the Detroit Institute of Art. He has a long career as an artist and illustrator serving the advertising industry in Detroit, Mich., and Pittsburgh, Pa. He has a series of aviation and landscape limited-edition prints.
“At its finest, art is emotion and drama distilled and set down on canvas [or carved into three-dimensional wood sculptures], a visual narrative painted [or carved] with a perfectionist’s respect of honesty and accuracy,” says Rendel.
Rendel is one of the nation’s most respected interpreters of aviation and wildlife art. He has exhibited in museums, galleries and shows throughout the United State and is the recipient of numerous art awards. Last year, he won first place in the American Society of Aviation Artists show in Baltimore, Md.
Rendel’s sculptures, prints and original oils are found in boardrooms of major corporations, as well as on the walls of serious art collectors. His past civic work includes the mural in the Rehoboth Public Llbrary, a life-size bronze sculpture of poet John Milton in Mill Park, Milton, and a painting of Dover Air Force Base for the AMC Museum.
Rendel is a fellow member and past president of The American Society of Aviation Artists, a member of the New York Society of Illustrators, the Air Force Art program, the Rehoboth Art League and the Milton Art Guild.
The self-paced tour takes place Tuesday and Wednesday, July 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The league will provide Jolly Trolley shuttle service to each of the locations on the tour. Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased on the Rehoboth Art League website, rehobothartleague.org or call 302-227-8408. This is an adult tour.
