Picnic in the Park returns to Lewes Canalfront Park June 1

May 19, 2014

One of the most anticipated events in Lewes returns Sunday, June 1, when the Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park present the third annual Picnic in the Park. This fun, old-fashioned community event with activities for the entire family will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at Lewes Canalfront Park.

Fourteen great Lewes restaurants will offer tastings at this festive affair, including Agave, Annabella's, The Buttery, Gilligan’s, Half Full, Irish Eyes, Jerry’s Seafood, Kindle, Nectar, The Rose and Crown, Striper Bites, Touch of Italy, Savannah Deli & Grill and 2 Dips Ice Cream. Nonalcoholic beverages, sodas and water will be plentiful. Wine served by R & L Liquors and beer supplied by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will be available to those who are 21 or older.

Kids will be entertained by old-fashioned carnival games with prizes, face painting, a balloon artist, a magician, cotton candy, and the park’s playground. A DJ will be spinning tunes for everyone to dance to.

The Picnic in the Park would not be possible without the sponsorship of The Inn at Canal Square, Schell Brothers, and Nucar Lewes Auto Mall. Other major sponsors are the Cape Gazette, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, R & L Liquors, Kids Cottage, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty, Russ Palmer Builders, Jack Lingo Realtors, and The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group.

Adult admission for the picnic is $10 in advance ($15 at the door), and $5 for kids 12 and under. Food and beverage tickets are $2 each at the event, with items being one or two tickets each. For admission tickets, which may be purchased using PayPal, and information, go to www.lewescanalfrontpark.org.

Tickets are also available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, 120 Kings Highway, Lewes, 302-645-8073, and outside the Historic Lewes Farmers Market. Advance purchase is encouraged as past picnics were sold out. Rain location will be at American Legion Post 17 off Savannah Road.

Stephanie Boright, chair of Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park, says, “This event is old-fashioned fun for all ages. We are grateful for all of the sponsors and the 14 Lewes restaurants who are giving so generously and make this event possible for the entire community. Bring a chair or a blanket, come down to the park and join the fun on Sunday, June 1.”
