Delmarva Chicken Festival seeks participants from early years

May 24, 2014

The 65th and final Delmarva Chicken Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, at the Queen Anne's County 4-H Park near Centreville Md. With this longtime Delmarva tradition coming to an end, festival organizers are looking for people who participated in the event's early years and beyond.

Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc., the overall sponsor of the festival since it began in 1948, is seeking to identify those who attended the first festival at Georgetown in 1948 or who had leadership roles with the event over the years so they may be invited to attend the final festival and be recognized there.

DPI is looking for people in these categories: people who attended the first Delmarva Chicken Festival, then known as The Chicken of Tomorrow Festival; people who reigned as Delmarva Poultry Princess, first known as Queen of Delmarva, or Little Delmarva Poultry Princess between 1948 and 1983; first-place winners in the Delmarva Chicken Cooking Contest between 1949 and 1998; and general chairmen for a Delmarva Chicken Festival between 1948 and the present.

Those meeting any of these qualifications are asked to contact Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. at 800-878-2449, 302-856-9037 or email Connie Parvis at parvis@dpichicken.com.
