Molly O. Saguto Lyons, Congressional staffer
Molly O. Day Saguto Lyons, 80, a longtime resident of the Washington Metropolitan Area, and in retirement of Rehoboth Beach, recently of Tacoma, Wash., and most recently of The Chevy Chase House in Washington, D.C., died of congestive heart failure at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, Friday, May 16, 2014.
Molly O. was born in Saint Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Ind., Aug. 11, 1933, to Theobald Adair Day and Genevieve Ward Day.
She is predeceased by her parents; her brother, John Theobald Day; and by her two late husbands, Vincent James Saguto Sr., and Robert B. Lyons.
Her sisters, Patricia Day Aichele of Portsmouth, N.H. and Mary Ellen Day Winkler (George) of Lewes survive her, as do her sons John Francis Saguto of Sonoma, Calif. and Vincent James Saguto Jr. (Beth) of Kensington, Md. Grandchildren Clara and Paul Saguto of Sebastopol, Calif. also survive her.
Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews: Genevieve Aichele, Carl Aichele (Cate), Marie Aichele, Kathryn Aichele Samardick (Josh) and Robert Aichele (Serap); John C. Day, Jay E. Winkler (Raquel);and Julie Vargo (Steve); and by numerous grandnieces and grandnephews: Skylar Miner; Emel and Aylin Aichele, Oliver and Brynn Aichele, John, Alison, Christina and James Day, Sam and Danny Winkler, and Olivia and Owen Vargo.
Molly O. graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross in 1951. She was a Congressional staffer for 26 years, working first for the Hon. Louis C. Rabaut of Detroit, Mich., and subsequently for the Hon. Samuel S. Stratton, who represented the Albany and Schenectady areas of New York.
Molly O. was known for her constant generosity, sense of beauty and wonderful sense of humor. Her laughter was a joy to hear. She was a marvelous cook and exuded Irish hospitality to all. She enjoyed people and travel and was a voracious reader - always happy to be reading fiction and nonfiction - especially her daily newspapers. She and her late husband, Vincent James Saguto Sr. (Jimmie), treasured their time working and acting with the Montgomery Players.
She is loved and will be missed deeply by numerous friends, all of whom feel that Molly O. is family.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, May 23, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 917 Montrose Road, Rockville, Md. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 24, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial will follow at noon, Saturday, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, Md.
