Kudos to Dewey Town Manager Appelbaum

May 29, 2014

Dewey Beach Town Manager Marc Appelbaum deserves a standing ovation from the property owners and citizens for his decision to reject Steve “Monty” Montgomery’s donation to the Dewey Beach Police Department for additional policing during the Memorial Day Weekend.

Mr. Appelbaum’s suggestion that it would be more appropriate to make donations to a General Fund seems reasonable and fair-minded. Also the Dewey Beach Town Commissioners deserve a round of applause for supporting his decision.

Mr. Montgomery’s righteous indignation over the town spurning his donation to the police is laughable. What is scary is Police Chief Sam Mackert’s comment that he “doesn’t care where the additional funding comes from for extra police officers, as long as it happens.”
