This summer, it won’t be just children reading for fun and prizes at the Lewes Public Library. The library is participating in the nationwide Literary Elements Adult Summer Reading Program that runs June 1 through Aug. 1
Participants are asked to read and review books and attend library programs throughout the summer to earn smaller prizes such as books, T-shirts and reading logs. At the end of the program, there will be drawings for additional prizes, such as gift cards from Baker's Exxon.
There will be two special Elemental Programs presented by Jack Clemons offered as part of the SRP. Local author and rocket scientist Jack Clemons will present “Space Shuttle: First Flights," at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19. This is an insider’s look at the untold stories behind the creation, design and early flights of NASA’s Space Shuttle, and the remarkable people who made it all come together.
Clemons will present “Flags on the Moon," an informative and often surprising look at the story behind each of the six American flags placed on the Moon by the Apollo astronauts, at 6:30 p.m., Monday, July 21.
