Elizabeth 'Betty' Welch, loved gardening

Elizabeth G. ‘Betty’ Welch, 68, passed away Tuesday May 20, 2014.

Mrs. Welch was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. to the late Charles G. and Helen E. Pelham. Betty was passionate and knowledgeable about plants and animals. She loved gardening and was very active in the Milton Garden Club.

For many years she volunteered her time at Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, and was a lifelong supporter of pet rescue organizations. As an enthusiast of nature and the outdoors, she was an avid fan of camping, kayaking, shelling and the beach.

Mrs. Welch loved people and never knew a stranger. Everyone was just a friend waiting to be met. Betty spent her days as a homemaker and loved being a mother to her three daughters, an endless fulfillment of life and joy.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Jauch.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Douglas Welch; three daughters: Linda Gaston and her husband Jeff, Christine Varley and her husband Steve, and Alison Welch and her fiancé Jesse Walker; two brothers: John Pelham and his wife Roxanne of Marietta, Ga. and Paul Pelham of Newark; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday May 30, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after noon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Milton Garden Club, PO Box 203, Milton, DE 19968.
