Matt Dunn wins Masser 5-Miler; Masser runs his own race
The 21st annual Lee Masser 5-Miler held May 25 had all the usual suspects and 266 total runners including Dr. Lee Masser, who has run them all.
And when Masser, 78, crossed the finish line in 59:41, an 11-minute pace, he exclaimed, “Where have my eight-minute miles gone?”
Jack Huxtable, 76, a retired foreign diplomat, won the age group in 43:20, followed closely by Courtney Riordan, who ran 43:56.
Matt Dunn, a firefighter from Trappe, Md., was the overall winner in 28:28, followed by Austin MacElrevey, 28:57, and Sonny Landis, 29:05.
Todd Buchanan, 42, captured the male masters title in 29:49, followed by Mike Sewell, 30:21.
Cindy Conant, 53, was the first woman to cross the finish line, in 31:36, just ahed of Jen Cawthorn, who ran 34:06.
Some notable performances included 8-year-old Timothy Ennis of Scotch Plains, N.Y., 43:50; John Best, 13, Alexandria, Va., 34:28; Lynn Danner, 53, Laurel, 31:44; Rusty Laporte, 60, Lewes, 37:48; Tim Abbot, 68, Georgetown, 37:50; and Delaware Hall of Fame runner Doug White, 71, who ran 39:55.
In the women’s division, 8-year-old Olivia Montini ran 42:48; Bridget Evans, 10, 44:10; Audrey Fatone, 14, 39:51; Casey Mackintosh, 21, 34:12; Taylor Coffey, 31, 35:15; Susan Dunn, 36, 36:08; Annette Wenzel, 45, 35:51. Jamie Wollard, 76, a breast cancer survivor, won her age group in 1:11:5.
