May 29, 2014

The Lewes Fire Department responded to a trash-truck fire about 11:30 a.m. May 28 along Savannah Road near the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal bridge. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Emergency Response Team was onsite to oversee cleanup of the roadway and waterway from a hydraulic oil spill of about 5 gallons. The oil was released from the truck on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal bridge grating and into a storm drain. A protective boom was placed at the outfall of the storm drain in canal and oily water in the pipe was pumped out. No one was injured.
